Our Story

Nilton & Lucas Machado

The award-winning Curbs Studio was born out of a father and son pursuit to innovate and deliver exceptional value in the Greater Boston landscape design-build marketplace.

A life-long entrepreneur, Nilton immigrated to Boston from Brazil in the 1980’s, then founded a lawn maintenance business before mastering pruning and plant care in the 1990’s. As the industry evolved, so did Nilton.

By the early 2000s, Nilton became a leading hardscape contractor in Massachusetts, known for his superior craftsmanship, attention to detail, and client satisfaction. As projects became more complex, Curbs grew into one of the most prominent landscape construction firms in the Greater Boston area.

Lucas formally joined his father at Curbs during his junior year at Babson College when the Covid-19 pandemic spiked demand for outdoor renovations. Having been by his father’s side at job sites and client meetings all his life, the next-generation entrepreneur understood the business and knew that he could take Curbs to new heights.

The father-son team share a vision and passion for creating luxury outdoor spaces that spark everlasting memories for families. In late 2020, they opened up Curbs Studio in Wellesley Hills and brought in industry-leading landscape architecture talent and technology.

Their story is a living example of the American Dream. Today, Curbs Studio is a thriving, local family business with a diverse team of dream-makers whose purpose is to make your vision a reality.
